Joy and I took advantage of a great travel package found on the Allegiant website and spent five days and four nights in Palm Springs. Both of us had never been to Palm Springs and were excited to see what this destination had to offer.
Leaving Vancouver’s 13 degree weather to Palm Spring’s over 40 degree weather was one of the highlights of the trip. The dry heat welcomed us right when we got off the plane and entered the open airport.
Renting a car is incredibly easy and convenient since the rental kiosks are in the airport and car depot right outside the airport. We found our Nissan Versa and headed towards our resort, the Westin Mission Hills.
Palm Springs is incredibly small and everything is very easily accessible. Downtown Palm Springs and Palm Desert were both a twenty minute drive away from our resort in Rancho Mirage and we were able to enjoy some great Palm Springs highlights.
Ok so Joy and I don’t golf but Palm Springs is well known for the golf resorts. Moving on!
There are some great food choices in Palm Springs. Happy Hour is popular in this town and we found a great place in Shanghai Red’s. $2 oyster shooters and one of the best fish tacos ($4) that we’ve ever had! We liked Shanghai Red’s so much that we paid it a second visit during our trip.
Another local hot spot is brunch favourite Cheeky’s. Be prepared to wait for a table (write down “FA” for the first available table inside or outside) but the wait is well worth it.
With a lower sales tax of 7.75%, shopping in Palm Springs helps the pocket books! The shopping highlight was by far the Desert Hills Premium Outlet in Cabazon which is a 20 minute drive from downtown Palm Springs. There are over 130 shops ranging from premium shops such as Yves Saint Laurent, Gucci and Prada to mainstream shops such as Banana Republic and Nike. There are two sections to the outlet and it took Joy and I two whole days to finish perusing the outlet. For the best deals, visit the outlets after a national holiday.
